The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
