Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
