Approximately twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday morning after intense storm systems swept through the region, bringing wind gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Ice Stones and Extensive Destruction

Homeowners witnessed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to 7cm in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams working to manage the widespread outages.

Southern State's Weather Woes

At the same time, approximately one thousand residents in the southern state also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services received nearly 600 requests for assistance across the state, mainly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Werribee region - recorded considerable weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing - numerous emergency calls
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on yesterday, in excess of 28,000 power users in the state were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along significant areas of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with persistent storm activity anticipated across multiple regions of both states.

Safety Concern

Health officials alerted that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, specifically given the current weather patterns.

This warning comes after past events where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the area.
